In 1936, Don Demetrio Hreñuk, the son of Ukrainian immigrants, founded a family business with the active participation of his wife, Catalina. During its early years, the company was dedicated to the planting, harvesting, and drying of yerba mate. In 1966, it acquired its first mill and began marketing processed yerba mate. Thus, Rosamonte Yerba Mate was born.

Over the years, the company evolved into Hreñuk S.A., expanding its production, processing, and commercial activities into other sectors of the economy. These additions included tea production, aquaculture, cattle ranching, forestry, and meat processing plants.

Working with honesty and committed to the quality of their products, Hreñuk S.A. has always devoted all its efforts to satisfying consumer needs, continuously adapting to the changing demands of an increasingly demanding national and international market.

Based on these principles, honesty, superior quality, consumer needs, and market demands, they have driven and established development and growth in Apóstoles, in the province of Misiones, Argentina.

At Rosamonte, seeds are carefully selected by hand from the finest plants, choosing only those with the best color, size, and condition. These seeds are planted in specialized nursery beds, where temperature and humidity are closely monitored until they reach maturity. The seedlings are carefully nurtured throughout their early stages of growth.

No pesticides or artificial fertilizers are used, as the nutrient-rich soils of Apóstoles naturally provide everything needed for healthy plant development. The harvest season runs from April through September, during which mature yerba mate leaves are handpicked from both Rosamonte's own plantations and from selected growers that meet the company's strict quality standards.

In newer plantations, plants are pruned to regulate growth and shape. The resulting organic material is returned to the soil as natural fertilizer, while harvesting begins only after the plants reach four to five years of age. Quality control is carried out in Rosamonte's laboratories, where fresh leaves, coarsely milled yerba mate, ground yerba mate, and the final product are analyzed at every stage of production.

This meticulous process allows Rosamonte to maintain the unique formula that has been developed and refined over three generations for each of its yerba mate varieties. After years of planning, expertise, and innovation, Rosamonte inaugurated a state-of-the-art drying facility equipped with leading technology. The facility uses biomass as fuel to generate the thermal energy required for the sapecado and drying processes, reflecting the company's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Today, Rosamonte operates the largest and most technologically advanced drying facility in Argentina, enhancing both environmental performance and workplace safety. At the drying plant, the raw material is first ventilated and then transferred onto an automated platform that regulates the flow of green leaves onto conveyor belts leading to the sapecador. The sapecado process consists of an extremely rapid drying stage lasting between 20 and 30 seconds, during which the leaves are exposed to direct heat inside a rotating horizontal cylinder reaching temperatures of up to 600°C.

In a controlled environment, the raw material is exposed to clean, hot air produced by four high-efficiency generators powered by recovered wet biomass, including sawdust, wood chips, and bark residues. Advanced filtration systems help minimize emissions and environmental impact. The hot air is distributed through specialized ducts to sixteen drying chambers, with temperature and airflow centrally monitored and automatically regulated according to operational requirements.

Following the drying stage, the yerba mate undergoes coarse grinding, where the dried material is roughly crushed and prepared for storage and transportation. The name of this process originates from traditional production methods, when yerba mate was spread across flat surfaces covered with burlap cloths known as canchas and manually broken apart.

Once coarsely milled, the yerba mate is packed into burlap sacks or large bulk bags, depending on its aging process. Each package is labeled with information regarding its origin and date of storage. The milling process involves a series of crushing, screening, and blending operations. The material is transported via conveyor systems to a cleaning screen, where excess stems and large branches are removed.

The leaves and stems are then separated. The leaves undergo further grinding and screening to achieve the desired cut and blend, while the stems are processed separately and cut into uniform pieces. After milling, selection, and blending are completed, the yerba mate proceeds to the packaging stage.

Advanced automated equipment fills, weighs, seals, and labels each package to ensure consistency and quality control. The final packaging is made from multiple protective layers specifically designed to preserve the freshness, aroma, flavor, and organoleptic properties of every Rosamonte yerba mate variety.
