All'inizio presenta un sapore leggermente fruttato e aspro. Alla terza o quarta infusione, diventa percettibile una delicata nota dolce e l'aroma si trasforma in un classico profumo brasiliano. Con ulteriori infusioni, emergono in sottofondo note di menta. La bevanda ha un gusto eccezionalmente delicato e proprietà stimolanti piuttosto forti. Il suo intenso colore verde è dovuto alla lavorazione rapida immediatamente dopo la raccolta, con un essiccamento molto veloce senza lunga stagionatura in magazzino. È confezionata sottovuoto e le foglie sono macinate grossolanamente per preservare a lungo il sapore. Il marchio Yacuy è stato fondato nel 1948 ed è particolarmente popolare nel suo paese d'origine, il Brasile, e nel vicino Uruguay. La gamma Yacuy comprende oltre una dozzina di miscele premium, con parte della produzione certificata biologica. La yerba maté Yacuy viene raccolta da alberi selvatici nel bacino del fiume Iguaçu, che attraversa l'omonimo parco nazionale nello stato brasiliano del Paraná.
