From the late 19th century onward, successive waves of immigrants arrived in Argentina, seeking here the peace and work they could not find in their countries of origin.
Among them was a large group of Germans, including agricultural producers, who settled in the northeastern part of Corrientes Province. From there, they began integrating with the Ukrainian and Polish immigrants who had already settled in the southern part of Misiones Province, in the city of Apóstoles.
Along with their capacity for hard work and sacrifice, this community brought with it the model of Cooperative Societies as a way of organizing a solidarity-based economy.
Thus, the Cooperativa Agrícola de la Colonia Liebig Ltda. was founded. Today, on its 99th anniversary, with 132 member producers, it has fulfilled the dream of those early immigrants.
The cooperative's first leadership was headed by its first President, Walter Orstermann. It is currently presided over by Ricardo Daniel Handziak.
