Fuzhuan Cha is one of Hunan’s most iconic dark teas, steeped in centuries of nomadic tradition from northern and western China. Originating in Anhua County, nestled in the forested Wuling Mountains, this tea is born from terrain sculpted by glaciers some six hundred million years ago—tillite stone formations unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Produced each summer—hence its name, where “Fu” means “summer”—Fuzhuan Cha is made from high-grade tea leaves and crafted with thoughtful precision. But its magic truly unfolds during aging, where a rare fungus, Eurotium cristatum, also known as Jinhua or "Golden Flower," flourishes.
This beneficial microbe supports digestive health, enhances the transformation of sugars, and boosts the oxidation of tea polyphenols, enriching both flavor and character. Its influence imparts a mellow, subtly sweet taste and smooth texture that evolves over time.
The final infusion reveals a striking wine-red hue—a sip that feels like drinking the forest’s secret summer song.
