Las Marías is a benchmark for sustainability and quality in the production of yerba mate. Through responsible agricultural practices and comprehensive control from seed to packaging, the establishment guarantees high-quality yerba mate free of chemicals. Its commitment to environmental preservation and job creation has made Las Marías a leader in the industry, attracting thousands of tourists every year.
Almost a century ago, Don Víctor Navajas Centeno had the vision to make use of the land at the “Las Marías” estate in the Argentine province of Corrientes to plant his first yerba mate plantation. He was likely inspired by the nearby Paraná jungle, where the Guaraní people began producing and consuming yerba mate.
There, Don Víctor successfully combined the historic estate with the local community and its people, bringing the agricultural venture to life in the middle of the countryside. Over the course of nearly a century of hard work, the estate evolved into the lush green paradise that Establecimiento Las Marías is today.
After establishing his agricultural business at Las Marías and developing the southernmost yerba mate plantations in the world, Don Víctor set himself a new goal: to oversee the entire yerba mate production process, from seed to packaging, in order to control and guarantee its quality from the very beginning.
In 1940, Taragüi Yerba Mate was launched in packaged form, quickly establishing itself at the forefront of its category. From then on, Establecimiento Las Marías became recognized as one of the world's leading yerba mate producers, as well as a major source of local employment and social services.
Today, Las Marías represents a commitment to quality and sustainability, offering a wide variety of traditional and innovative products for the region's large community of materos (yerba mate enthusiasts). Its range includes traditional yerba mate, yerba mate tea bags, finely ground varieties with low dust content, fruit-flavored yerba mate, and ready-to-use mate kits.
