Au début, il présente une saveur légèrement fruitée et acidulée. Dès la troisième ou quatrième infusion, une note douce et délicate devient perceptible, et l'arôme se transforme en un parfum classique brésilien. Avec les infusions suivantes, des notes mentholées apparaissent en arrière-plan. La boisson a un goût exceptionnellement doux et des propriétés stimulantes assez fortes. Sa couleur verte intense est due au traitement rapide immédiatement après la récolte, avec un séchage très rapide sans vieillissement prolongé en stockage. Elle est emballée sous vide, et les feuilles sont grossièrement moulues pour une conservation longue de la saveur. La marque Yacuy a été fondée en 1948 et est particulièrement populaire dans son pays d'origine, le Brésil, ainsi que dans le voisin Uruguay. La gamme Yacuy comprend plus d'une douzaine de mélanges premium, dont une partie de la production est certifiée biologique. Le yerba maté Yacuy est récolté sur des arbres sauvages dans le bassin du fleuve Iguaçu, qui traverse le parc national éponyme dans l'État brésilien du Paraná.
